is there live with new information for us. a very active scene still, bob. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. i just heard from the spokesperson from alameda spokesperson. he's on the way to the scene to give us more information. we're on marcella street which is the road that runs right in front of hillside elementary. you can see for a couple blocks it is still shut down. deputies have got this area shut down. the school is off to the right up on that mound there. you can see red lights of the school. it was around 8:45 last night well after the kids were off campus after school was out of session that someone called 911 because they heard multiple shots fired. when the alameda county sheriff's office arrived, they found a young man, an adult but young man, on campus suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. they took him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. they are telling us that this is the first homicide of the year for them. it appears they have not made any arrests as of yet. if you want to look at our live chopper video you can get a sense of where the shooting

wjz is live at city police headquarters. mike hellgren stays on this investigative story for us. >> reporter: and police released the name of that instructor, william scott kern. they released it a little more than an hour ago. he has worked for the department for almost two decades. the fraternal order of police has praised his work. the state's attorney says he is closely monitoring the investigation under way. >> reporter: wjz is getting answers to some of the many questions surrounding the shooting of an officer during training at the state-owned rosewood hospital site in baltimore county. sources tell wjz, at the time, more than 1 dozen officers were undergoing training there by two baltimore city police instructors. those sources revealed, after lunch, one instructor decided to resume training before the other returned. wjz has learned that violates police policy. instructors are supposed to check for service weapons before training. as we first reported, sources say it was after the lunch break when someone present confused his servic

stepping >> hello everybody thanks for joining us this sunday morning. i'm marty gonzalez. i'm ysabel duron. we'll get to the top stories in a moment, but first, let's get right to your forecast with janu arasu. good morning. you can see plenty of sunshine here but we are looking at some areas of low clouds and fog. sunny skies into the afternoon but temperatures will be cooler than yesterday. we will not see any los seven is on the board mainly '60s. taking a look at where tempers are sitting right now about 37 degrees in santa rosa 36 in napa low fifties already in the oakland and mid-40s in redwood city. mid-60's in oakland expected today and into the north bay and '60s there as well. upper 60s expected in napa and a little bit chillier in san francisco getting up to only 62 degrees. the full forecasters coming up including showers. >> oakland police are searching for suspects this morning following a deadly shooting saturday. the shooting happened just before 5 p-m on 8th street near the west oakland bart station. you're looking at video from our helicopter partnership with abc 7 news.

in a small amount of time. most of us around .25 but it was a cold weather system that blew through here. what you're looking at here is that cold air that's sweeping in over the top of us. there's still a chance for snow flurries. snow levels reports down to some areas below 1,000 feet. so it was really cold. right now san jose you have some heavier rain down by blossom hill road. this is significant rainfall headed to the east capital expressway. some heavy rain, let's come in a little bit closer here. over by san felipe road you have heavier rain. these reds and yellows that's coming down pretty hard. santa rosa drive in this area, most of this action is starting to move off but you can see near brenam rain it's pretty big. this is a hot spot in the area because most of the rain has moved off. you can see a few light showers as well. when i come back we're going to be tracking more showers tonight. then we're going to track this very, very cold air. what does that mean for tomorrow morning's overnight lows? you're going to find out i'll have the details. >>> snow has returned to the

spent the next 15 minutes talking to them. >> he wouldn't hurt us if we did what he said and followed his directions. it would be okay. >> what were you thinking? >> i didn't believe him. i thought he was going to kill us. >> we saw so many pictures of him and while he talked to me he said i know i know who i am. >> i don't have a problem with you. i just want to clear my name. >> dorner tied them up and gagged them and covered their heads with pillowcases. he stole their car and then just took off. karen managed to get free and she called 911. it was that call that set into motion the chain of events that ultimately led to dorner's death. what followed was a shootout between dorner and a fish and wildlife warden and then standoff in another cabin. police lobbed tear gas inside the cabin and that caused the fire. what's believed to be dorner's body was found inside the burned out building along with his driver's license. police say they will wait until they receive absolute confirmation from the coroner before they officially declare dorner dead. >>> the alameda county sheriff continu

've been out there. give us an idea of what they're dealing with. >> it's really cold out there. water conditions right now 50 degrees in the water. what's really dangerous is the rough surf out there. we've got waves at 9.5 feet high and winds are driving the waves relentlessly. a small craft advisory in place which means it's dangerous for those smaller vessels to be out there on the water right now. however, the search from the air actually looking promising because we don't have fog to report this morning. that's the good news. nice and clear out there. the winds have been whipping all night long. the good news in this case is they'll start to drop off heading throughout the afternoon and then overnight tonight in particular. we still have a blustery day to get through. winds at 5 miles an hour in san jose. temperatures are cold to start. 43 in oakland. you want to layer up today. by noon you can peel off that first layer. only thing about today is temperatures are going to be comfortable. a little bit of wind. high clouds streaming in. that's it. just about as perfect as it was ye
